Send what you want exec to report. Met with Dr. Bonfiglio, talked about what faculty senate is working on. 2/22 resolution- 6 things on it received by administration and board with varying degrees of success. New nepotism policy-if you work for AU you cannot be in line of report to your family member (no president family member can work here). Faculty concerned bc not sole decision factor for hiring faculty members in department, felt pressured to make certain curriculums for grants.

Old Business: N/A

New Business: Yosola sworn in. Executive session: Paul Murray as Senior VP. APPOINTED.

General Concerns: Josh-Massive holes in lot I. Justin-Could we get a bike rack in front of library? People are chaining bikes to statue out front. Student conduct policy. What actually supposed to be? Students are meeting with area coordinators alone, and the ARDs are giving punishments. Meeting this week to have training. No info provided besides layout, not implied how that should work. Individual unable to attend meeting, did not respond with time, given punishment. Had expectation that there were students on the board. Please have them write up the issue and send it to Jacob Nestle. Nathan- write-up in fraternity house, no students on student conduct board, just assigned punishments. Some punishments really severe. Jacob Nestle-Once board trained they will write a post hoc student review. Isaac- went to conduct board meeting recently. Sabrina received two or three emails asked to be on a student conduct board, but could not attend. Looks like res life just did not fill absence with students. Only for students who appeal, smaller-level violations. What level of offense requires a full conduct board? Right now all meetings are not using board. Nathan- res life entered room illegally, before 24 hour notification, found lizard, going to conduct board meeting. Ordinary vs. non-ordinary policy or arbitrary rule? Rebecca- forward her the concerns. Shelby- whispers that there is a new policy being brought up by Nicole Dyer about clubs/student organizations can no longer have gatherings/official meetings where alcohol is sold or present. Dr. Pool- as long as they are not promoting drinking alcohol or advertising, they can still go. Nathan bringing a report next week with official clarification. Tell people that Shelby’s concern is not the case. Abby- as it was explained to her sorority, if you have formals or semis off campus with alcohol, you have to ask first. Form on engage, goes to Nicole Dyer. University-wide rule. Your event cannot promote the sale or use of alcohol. Rebecca- Emily Ebert trying to revive polisci honorary, get contact info from Jacob. Nathan- email about homecoming events: 80% of email is “here are all the things we can write you up for, reread alcohol policy, don’t mess up, etc.” while the other 20% is describing the events of the week. Should send out in two different emails, separate from activities. Sabrina-a lot of frustrations regarding communications regarding alcohol policy. Two different power structures, one that says yes you can, the other saying that no you can’t. Recently a club’s event was denied because a Google search determined the definition of a word. Description for event did not mention binge drinking, etc. The denial was based off definition of the word which a student didn’t provide. Had good faith going into it, that student events would not be stopped necessarily, submitted under a different name and accepted. Jacob Nestle- administrator who trained everyone on engage Ashland software, all events except for obviously problematic ones or provide liability issues, will be confirmed. There was no appeal process, could not explain themselves. Zero liability for AU if a group is going to a place off campus where people are going to drink legally. Justin Politzer- email: very last policy- drinking games not permitted, those typically include alcohol even if there is no alcohol, cannot partake in a drinking game where there is zero alcohol present. People have been written up for playing water pong. Ensure people drink responsibly in senior apartments especially. Counted as a full violation of the alcohol policy, even if alcohol is not present. Magnet in senior apartments stating what you are not allowed to do concerning alcohol (beer ok, no kegs). Mark- is it true that non-alcoholic beer is not permitted? Yes, to “prevent confusion,” make implementation of alcohol policy easier to enforce. Don’t have to question if it is alcohol or not. Sabrina- If you are someone who has to deal with the execution of this policy (RA), give ratings. Two eh, three thumbs down. Isaac- Can’t test if the liquid is alcoholic or not. What if someone has three cans of nonalcholic beer, shows RA, but actually drinking alcohol in an open container. Justin- labeled on can, can enter for a noise violation if there is a drinking game going on. Josh- a legal entity that is nonalcoholic, why banned under an alcohol policy? Also for drinking games. Shelby- most solo cups are considered alcohol paraphernalia. Justin- Make the open canister policy known-don’t remove it from the vessel that declares it non-alcoholic. Jacob Nestle- it’s not a common thing for students to drink non-alcoholic beer. Not an issue to presume that the beer is alcoholic if no evidence present. Shelby- toothpick holder considered shot glass, written up. Decorative “Wine bottle” considered alcohol paraphernalia, written up. Dana- Medicine cup from roommate, written up. Write up issues and give to alcohol paraphernalia policy, email Jacob. Jacob Brown and Nestle talking about alcohol paraphernalia policy. Hopefully resolution next week. Talk with RAs first to get feedback, talk to Kim Lammers. Dr. Pool, shared concerns about paraphernalia. Shelby- wifi has not worked for 12 ½ hours. At least once a day the wifi goes down in different parts of campus. When connected to wifi, does it work?- yes and meh, mixed. AU secure. A lot more issues with it last year, much faster now. Click AU secure, kicked off, connect to AshlandUniversity, kicked backed onto AU secure. Fraternity circle spotty at best sometimes. Amstutz spotty throughout entire building. Not any problems when in Library. Phi Psi house- connects but nothing loads. Software issues. Cuts out randomly, 4 times in 10 minutes. Works well if in center of campus, but in CFA- 1 bar of wifi, or disappear. Nathan- Local issue on dorm floor, 2nd floor Myers, weird section of hallway, lose wifi, get wifi once past bathroom. Laptop or phone? Both. Laptop- when you detach from Ashland University and reattach AU secure as default. Lake tech rep customer service will come to senate, answer questions, take down info. Send Sabrina specific complaints. Ask them to have Drew come to us. Reina- able to get into student senate website, updating: send photo of self and bio. Social media pages should be up and running by end of week. Emma- Nest, new food. Suggestion or comment box in Nest would be cool. Name, complaint, email. Not everyone knows about comment box. One for senate office. For hall reps, comment box in residence halls. Instagram poll? Suggest to managers. Dana- international students complain about the lack of healthy food in Convo. Office in Rec center about student wellness. Every year a student does a study on making convo healthier, not changed. Loop in Jacob Brown. Reach out to Debbie Sullivan. Dr. Donata. Dietetics have been working to have healthier options in convo, does not know how to work. Ashley Shaar-The way the washers and dryers in the senior apartments keep hitting each other, one door almost came off the other day. Printers not connected to lab. Ruby- Why is spotty wifi in eagles corner? Write anything other issues up.

Announcements: Karate class 7:15. Scream 11:55. Special alumni scream. Ashland Falconry, flying at football game. Enemy of the people this and next weekend. Egg throwing. Theta phi alpha, hope for the homeless tabling 11-1 each day this week. Raised over $600 in the past 76 hours. Large 2-topping pizza from dominos for $6. If you need service hours, volunteers for madrigals. tinyurl.com/madrigals2019 Potential senate involvement. Talk about it next week. International club having a hiking trip to Mohican. Office of Diversity and Inclusion pillow talk Common ground 7 PM Friday for ladies. Banana splittin. International photo contest open. Submit photos, send to study abroad office. A few senate members on homecoming court. Vote! Issue with homecoming court email. Josh has no email for anything concerning homecoming. Not getting commuter newsletter. Talk to commuter office.
